Atlanta (Friday Jan 28/2005) - Governor
Sonny Perdue today joined advocates for the Faith and Family
Services Amendment at the State Capitol, including the Archbishop
of the Archdiocese of Atlanta Wilton Gregory, to rally support for
the amendment's passage by the General Assembly. The amendment
will allow faith-based social service providers to compete for
state funds without facing discrimination.

Mayor Jack Ellis and others
present a 5-year $140 million dollar special purpose local option
sales tax before the voters on March 2. Mayor and City Council
approved the SPLOST by a 10-5 vote. The Bibb County Commission
also approved the measure.

Mayor Floyd Griffin, a former state senator, was elected in
2001. In April 2003, Gov. Perdue signed legislation stripping him
of most of his power. The city will be governed by a full-time
